Notely Abbey Country-Chic Wedding

We have an elegant, country-chic wedding for you on the blog today. Charlotte and Gareth’s wedding at Notley Abbey, Buckinghamshire, was a combination of style, sophistication, romance and most of all – a huge amount of fun! This gorgeous couple are very clearly, utterly in love and it was incredible playing a part in their celebrations.

It was a beautifully warm day – perfect for their outdoor ceremony set in the pretty walled garden of Notley Abbey. Charlotte was surrounded by her bridesmaids in the morning getting ready, whilst Gareth played croquet on the lawns outside with his friends and family who had flown in from South Africa.

I asked what made them decide upon Notley Abbey for their wedding, “It was love at first sight!” Charlotte explained, “I loved the combination of beautiful, old historical architecture that had been carefully renovated with modern, elegant interiors. The grounds were stunning and filled with lavender. I loved the idea of having the venue exclusively for 24 hours with several bedrooms, so we could get ready, enjoy the wedding and have a big breakfast send off with the extended wedding party the next day. I also loved that the wedding and reception could both be conducted on site.”

Charlotte looked absolutely stunning in her Mira Zwillinger wedding dress whilst Gareth looked exceedingly dapper in his tailor made suit from Cad and the Dandy, London.

The team at Sonning Flowers ensured that the ceremony setting looked perfect with pretty white flowers, greenery and ribbons.

We love it when couples take the time to write their own personal promises to each other. Charlotte + Gareth took this one step further by memorising their words so they could look into each others eyes as they spoke from the heart and it was truly incredible.

We loved working alongside wedding photographer Camilla Arnhold and you can take a look at her beautiful photos of Charlotte and Gareth’s day on her website here. Camilla is a childhood friend of Charlotte’s and Charlotte explained to me “I hadn’t spoken to Camilla for a few years, but then by chance I saw that she’d photographed a wedding of someone I knew. I looked her up and loved her style so really wanted her to photograph our wedding” and as you will see from Camilla’s gallery, she captured their day perfectly.

I asked Charlotte what her most memorable moments were from her day “Getting ready. Saying our vows. The romantic photo shoot in the woods. The speeches. Dancing the night away.”

Charlotte also had some tips for couples who are currently planing their wedding “Bride – make sure you have a pair of flats for the evening! Groom – throat lozenge before speech! With the entertainment/music – you get what you pay for! We were worried we’d gone overboard with a string-quartet for the ceremony and drinks reception, early evening acoustic band and then a DJ, but it kept the great vibes going all day. Don’t spend too much time/money on table favours – no one eats them/takes them home. Remember to enjoy yourself on your big day and take the time to soak it all in with your new husband/wife.”

And of course we had to ask what was the best thing about having their day captured on film and Charlotte happily replied “You can re-live the whole day! All the little things you’ve forgotten will suddenly feel alive again. Hearing the speeches again was just priceless!

We loved so much about Charlotte + Gareth’s wedding, we really hope you enjoy watching their highlights film x
