A winter woodland wedding was how Ruth from Finesse Planning had described Jen and Simon’s forthcoming wedding and when she said they were looking for a wedding videographer and were we available, thank goodness we were! Ruth was hired to do full wedding planning and she recently told me ‘I knew from very early on, it was going to be a special day. Jen and Simon are one of the loveliest couples I have had the pleasure to work with’ and I couldn’t agree more. They are very much in love and add to this a professionally styled wedding, it was a wedding videographers delight!
Their wedding was held at Wick Farm in Bath and we started filming in the morning as Jen, her family and bridesmaids were getting ready at Coombe Grove Manor. The mood was happy and calm whilst the lovely Jessica Mills worked on Jen’s makeup and Sheena worked on creating her gorgeous hairstyle.
The bouquets which were created by the team at Sorori Design Florist were kept quite soft and informal with majolica spray roses, tulips and ranunculus surrounded with birch twigs and bound with natural materials. The flower girl wand was made of silver birch twigs, roses and wax flower – so pretty!
The styling of the barn was breathtaking. Maria of Sorori Design Florist tells me ‘we used nude coloured flowers, majolica spray roses, tulips & ranunculus, with lots of birch twigs and contorted willow to give a winter woodland feel along with plenty of candlelight for the warm & cozy effect.’ Maria also explained that suspended from the lovely old beams in the barn were living chandeliers of twigs, foliage and fairy lights, with tea lights and rose heads hung from the centerpiece for a dramatic feel. I couldn’t agree more when Maria said ‘the whole room looked enchanting!’
We had the pleasure of working alongside Robin of Bullit Photography and as you can see from the above three images of the flowers and living chandeliers, his work is fabulous. Thank you for the use of your photos Robin!
Jen had originally seen some images of wedding cakes that looked like bark on Pinterest and the talented team at Curtis & Co Cakes adapted something for them based on this. Jennie of Curtis & Co Cakes told me ‘we wanted Jen and Simon’s cake to be very pale and washed out like a silver birch tree and we used confectioners sugar as snow.’ Jennie went on to explain ‘I suggested the sugar blossoms and twigs to make it soft and pretty and I raised the cake on cake boards that we iced to look like planks of wood so that Maria at Sorori could put the moss under the cake so the cake table was really incorporated into the rest of the room.’ I’m sure you’ll all agree that it is a truly stunning cake!
These pretty candle holders doubled up as escort cards for guests with their table names on them. Each one was handmade by Ruth and there was also a second set on the tables with guest names on them – a really creative idea that took a lot of work but it was worth all the effort!
When it was time for the first dance, Jen and Simon had a little surprise for their guests, as they had spent time learning a choreographed routine that went without a hitch. We filmed this in its entirety and we added this to their wedding DVD as a separate chapter.
The evening then continued with music from Neil at Deckstar Deluxe and casino tables for those who fancied a touch of roulette!
When speaking with Jen recently, I asked her what the best things are about having a wedding film and she explained ‘the best things are seeing all the things you missed on the day – such as seeing Si’s face when I was walking down the aisle or my sister beaming in the background as we said our vows,’ Jen continued to say ‘I have loved watching it back over and over again and it is something we will have forever. It brought the day alive in our memories.’
A big thank you to Ruth of Finesse Planning for passing on our details to Jen and Simon. Wedding planners are worth their weight in gold and having now filmed a wedding where the couple chose the full planning service, I can see what a difference it really makes to the attention to detail, creativeness on the day and making sure everything goes without a hitch. When speaking to Ruth she said ‘I will hold this wedding dear to me for many years to come.’
This was a truly memorable wedding to be a part of and we’re honoured that Jen and Simon chose us to be their wedding videographers. It’s been lovely hearing all their news since they got married too and we wish them lots of happiness and health for their future together as Mr & Mrs Boon!
